Myrtle
Beach Area
There are some other notable picks for this past year Players
Top Choice Picks by the MBGA. Some of these are on the eastern
seaboard and fairly nearby and we claim them as our own. One
of these is Oyster Bay Golf Club in Sunset Beach NC. Dan Maples
and Larry Young have created a course that is very innovative.
Severe marsh holes, two island green par threes and strategically
placed, beautiful fresh water lakes work together to make
this course worth the drive.
Tim Cate created Tiger’s Eye Golf Links in Ocean Isle
Beach NC. There are plenty of trees to make the course challenging
and Tim Cate made good use of the greens and water. The 592-yard
final hole is impressive forcing golfers to carry water from
an elevated tee shot.
Conway SC is so close to Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand
that we do consider it to be local. Two of your favorites
are found here as well. One is the Avocet at Wild Wing. Larry
Nelson and Jeff Brauer designed it as a signature course.
It is noted for being playable and enjoyable. It is a pleasant
course and ever changing, as seasonable winds come into play.
In 1994 Golf Digest recognized The Avocet as one of "The
Top 10 Best New Resort Courses in America."
If you plan to head towards Conway, on your next visit to
check out the Golf Scene in Myrtle Beach don't miss the Witch.
This course was built on 500 acres of land located in the
middle of a swamp between Myrtle Beach and Conway. The holes
have many severe changes in elevation. Wetlands come into
play on almost every hole and there are four miles of bridges
that must be crossed. The course is an eerily isolated experience
being intentionally located away from the distractions of
hotels, homes and developments. Come and see for yourself...if
you dare. The Golf you have come to expect at Myrtle Beach
is still here for you, don't worry we will help you to know
where to find it. |
